After receiving a $150 million donation from Stephen Schwarzman, alumnus and co-founder of the private equity group, Blackstone, Yale University has plans to create a world-class campus center by renovating the historic Commons and Memorial Hall. Once complete in 2020, the Schwarzman Center will provide a central location for students to meet, eat, and view performing arts.

But before that happens, Yale is tasked with removing and finding a new home for the furniture, fixtures, and appliances from the first two floors of the Commons building.

To do this, they have launched two online auctions at www.RestaurantEquipment.bid to give the community a chance to bring a piece of Yale home with them.

The kicker? Bidding for all items starts at $1.00, no matter what.

Items in the auction include professional-grade kitchen equipment, appliances, fixtures, tables, and over 1,000 chairs. Two auctions will be launched in total: one for the first floor of the commons and one for the basement floor, ending January 11th and 18th respectively.

The decision to remove items from the Commons building through RestaurantEquipment.bid is part of Yale’s ongoing effort to create a sustainable campus. In the Yale Sustainability Plan 2025, one of the organization’s primary objectives is to ensure sustainable consumption and disposal patterns across campus. Previous efforts in this direction include Yale launching the first phase of a three-year project to provide permanent furniture in all dormitory common rooms in freshman housing.

TAGeX Brands and RestaurantEquipment.bid are excited to help Yale reach these goals of sustainability by finding a good home for these items.
