A family-owned Chinese-American restaurant institution is closing

One of metro Detroit’s best Chinese eateries Kim’s Restaurant will serve its final meal in Troy on Saturday, August 31. The 44-year-old restaurant founded by Guy Yee is known for serving Chinese American classics like almond boneless chicken, Szechuan lo mein, and sweet and sour pork as well as bubble tea. It’s also an especially popular spot for Christmas Eve dinner. The owners are closing in preparation for retirement, according to a Facebook post. In addition to thanking customers, the restaurant asked customers to share their fondest memories from dining at Kim’s. The announcement, of course, has caused a rush from customers looking to revisit the restaurant before its closure and Kim’s management reminded patrons today in a message that wait times would likely be longer than usual.
