Mario's restaurant auction set for Thursday
October 7, 2016
Virtually everything that was once Mario’s Via Abruzzi — rustic chandeliers, ice machines, chairs, bar stools, catering chafers, the ice cream machine — is being laid out like a freshly filleted halibut. The contents of the now-closed Italian restaurant are going up for auction next week.
Mario’s was a standardbearer of local Italian cuisine for three decades, but last year it was announced that it would be closed and demolished, along with the neighboring Mamasan’s Restaurant and Clover Lanes, to make way for new development that would include a Whole Foods supermarket. Those plans have been submitted to the town of Brighton and are still awaiting approval.
The restaurant will open at 7 a.m. Thursday, with the live auction beginning at 8 a.m. A preview of the auction is set for 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mario’s, 2740 Monroe Ave., Brighton.
