Guy Fieri Cooks Thanksgiving Meals for California Fire Evacuees

According to Grub Street, The historically devastating Camp Fire has displaced more than 100,000 people in California, and destroyed thousands of buildings. This meant many, many people were without a place to celebrate Thanksgiving, but José Andrés and World Central Kitchen did their part to make sure people had a good, warm holiday meal. Together with celebrity chefs Guy Fieri and Tyler Florence, the disaster-relief organization provided meals for 15,000 individuals in Chico.

The chefs cooked 7,500 pounds of turkey for evacuees in Chico, and dinner was hosted by Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. at its taproom and brewery. California officials; California State University, Chico; and the town of Paradise — all of which was destroyed by the fire — all helped, as well. Fieri, who lives in Santa Rosa in the Bay Area, cooked for first responders on November 11, and has helped feed victims of past fires.

Speaking to the Reno Gazette-Journal, he said doing this “was not even a question” and that he recruited friends and one of his sons flew in from college. Speaking of recruiting help, Andrés posted a video of volunteer Arnold Schwarzenegger last Wednesday, who saying that “World Central Kitchen would not exist if it did not have volunteers.”
