Want to buy a pizza oven? Chain closes restaurants, auctioning equipment

Dan Eaton | December 4th, 2017

Another fast-casual pizza operator is gone from Columbus.

California-based PizzaRev has shuttered a pair of shops in Central Ohio at 1607 N. High St. at Gateway in the University District and at 5010 N. Hamilton Road near Gahanna. The company had planned to open a restaurant on Sawmill Road as well near Dublin, but that never came to fruition.

The company has not commented on the decision. The local franchisees were Tom Pilbeam and Jack Thompson, who also are Denny’s franchisees. Both sites opened in spring 2016.

The brand joins Atlanta-based Your Pie as a short-lived local casualty in the once hot fast-casual pizza war.

Still standing are Seattle-based Mod Pizza, which took that Sawmill spot that had been slated for PizzaRev and has three restaurants in the market; Medina-based PizzaFire, which has three units; Dayton-based Rapid Fired Pizza, which has a pair; California-based Blaze Pizza with one unit; and Cucinova, the Columbus-based offshoot of Sbarro LLC, which has five restaurants.

Equipment from the two shuttered PizzaRevs is up for auction through RestaurantEquipment.bid including the specialized pizza ovens, which can cook pizza in about three minutes. Information on the Campus site auction, which closes Dec. 15, is here while information on the Gahanna auction, which closes Dec. 18, is here. Each item starts at $1 with no reserve price.
