23 Friendly's locations closed over the weekend

Syracuse, N.Y. — Friendly’s, the iconic brand that got its start when two brothers opened their first ice cream shop in 1935, closed 23 restaurants, including four in the Syracuse area, over the weekend.

 

The Wilbraham, Massachusetts, headquartered company said it took the action “with an eye toward ongoing viability and maximizing resource investment.”

 

The closed locations include 14 restaurants in Upstate New York, three in Massachusetts, three in Connecticut, two in New Hampshire and one in Maine. All are corporate owned.

 

Following the closures, Friendly’s will have 77 corporate-owned restaurants and 97 franchisee-owned restaurants.
