The Fish Market, a 47-year-old seafood restaurant in Palo Alto that shuttered its El Camino Real branch to give way to a housing project, is hosting an online auction to sell its contents — memorabilia, furniture, décor, restaurant equipment and other supplies — to interested members of the community.

The objective is to give loyalists a chance to own a piece of an eatery they have been associated with for years. It’s also a way for The Fish Market to preserve its legacy.

The online-only auction will be hosted on LocalAuctions.com. Participation is open to the general public. Registration is mandatory and free.

Examples of items up for auction include décor items, kitchen appliances, nautical-themed decorations and dining furniture.

“This is a great opportunity for customers of The Fish Market as well as the local community to own a piece of such an iconic restaurant,” says Gabriel Prado, founder and CEO of LocalAuctions.com.

Takers for the items on sale are expected to include long-time patrons, local entrepreneurs and restaurant owners.

The auction is split into two parts — one for the memorabilia and decor and the other for restaurant equipment and supplies. Bidding for both parts has begun and will take place through Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 1 p.m. PST.

Those interested can preview the items in person at 3150 El Camino Real, Palo Alto, on Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

All lots have a $5 starting bid. Winning bidders are required to pick up their items by Friday, Sept. 29, 4 p.m.

The restaurant also shut its San Mateo branch recently.
